The Commercial Therapeutic Area Lead (TA) works together with the R&D TA Lead to develop and oversee execution of a comprehensive TA Strategy.

A key responsibility of the joint leaders is to build and maintain a fully integrated and aligned Therapeutic Area Leadership Team and to work with functional heads to ensure execution of the TA portfolio is aligned with the TA priorities.

The Commercial TA Lead is also responsible for leading the Commercial Development TA team to develop and implement global marketing and medical affairs strategies aligned with the TA priorities.

The TA Lead provides input into functional planning and works with functional leads to ensure resource allocation & project execution is aligned with TA portfolio priorities. Oversees development of integrated project plans for both R&D projects and Commercial activities.

Ensures the TA “market shaping” strategy & decision making is informed by robust commercial insights and scientific & medical validity. 

Liaises with other TAs and Portfolio Management for best practice development and alignment on cross-functional issues including product supply and technical platforms.

The Executive Director Commercial Respiratory also has responsibility for oversight and effective management of all team members to include but not limited to the following:

  • Annual objective setting
  • Mid-year and end of year reviews; Coaching and counseling as appropriate.
  • Employee development. To include ensuring all leaders have development plans in place
  • Recruitment, selection and development of talent.
  • Managing, directing & measuring work on an ongoing basis.

Provides timely constructive feedback to ensure quality of work meets or exceeds company standards.


Job Requirements

  • Minimum 15+ years of experience, including at least 8 years of relevant experience in a range of R&D, sales and marketing and/or business development roles
  • Graduate degree in science or business; MBA a plus
  • Operational leadership experience at a country level in addition to roles at a global or regional level are strongly preferred
  • Deep commercial knowledge of relevance to the TA and proven launch experience across multiple countries
  • Experience in small/mid-size and large pharma countries preferred
  • Promotion experience in either the Orphan Area/ Complex Therapeutic Areas or in Epilepsy
  • Proven ability to lead strategy development and to translate strategy into long term execution plans
